We learned in season one of” Once Upon a Time” that the way for Rumple (Robert Carlyle) to no longer be the Dark One is for someone to stab him with his own dagger. The power then transfers to that person. Baelfire aka Neal (Dylan Schmid and Michael Raymond-James), tried to find another way for Rumple to no longer have the Dark One’s curse in the episode “The Return,” and wound up on Earth for his efforts. What if Neal was right in that there was another way to get rid of the Dark One curse? What if the curse becomes null once whoever was the current Dark One makes some kind of sacrifice?
In the mid-season finale “Going Home,” Rumple makes that sacrifice by stabbing himself as well as his father Malcolm, aka Peter Pan. Does this mean that he is still the Dark One? No one really knows what happens if the Dark One kills himself with the dagger. I am thinking that Rumple will still be able to use magic like Regina (Lana Parilla) and the Blue Fairy (Keegan Connor Tracy.) He would no longer be controlled by someone else if they have the dagger, making it useless. Maybe the dagger will become a wand. If he does get one, it has to look cool like the wands in Harry Potter.
Pinocchio aka August (Eion Bailey), courtesy of the blue fairy, got his second chance in episode “Selfless, Brave, and True.” Why can’t Rumple? He is a major character who needs to stick around. What can Rumple be called now if he is no longer the Dark one?
In the mid-season premiere Belle (Emilie De Ravin) mentions looking for the dagger, as no body was found right before they left Storybrooke. I’m looking forward to finding out how they bring Rumple back during the 2nd half of Season 3 of Once Upon a Time. What about you?
