Gotham’s theme for the first part of their 3rd season, Mad City, saw some great moments. Fans who came to the panel on Sunday April 2nd got to see a sneak peak featuring Edward Nygma, played by Cory Michael Smith, and a trailer for upcoming episodes. After seeing the trailer for when it comes back on Monday April 24th, I am excited for what is coming!
The show had its panel prior to the press room. Damian Holbrook, senior writer for TV Guide magazine, moderated. Representing the show were creator Danny Cannon, David Mazouz aka Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova aka Selina Kyle, Smith, Erin Richards aka Barbara Kean, Jessica Lucas aka Tabitha, and Drew Powell aka Butch. This is the first time I have seen Smith, Lucas, Powell and Cannon live in a panel setting as I met Mazouz and Richards at New York Comic Con last year.
I enjoyed the panel and the interaction between the cast members. There were a few moments that were funny and reflective. One funny moment was Bicondova explaining how awkward it is to make out with Mazouz with the camera crew watching. She tried to get the adults to explain what they go through but Richards had to remind her that there were kids in the audience. I did laugh out loud when Smith raised his hand to volunteer Nygma to become one of Barbara’s new lovers when Holbrook asked the question about Richard’s character getting another potential love interest!
Another great moment was Mazouz explaining his growth spurt with Cannon and Bicondova reminiscing when he was shorter. Hints were made of the upcoming episodes with Nygma exploring his evil side without Penguin there to mentor him and Cannon, Lucas, and Bicondova hinted that Barbara and Tabitha may take Selina under their wing.
A more reflective moment was Smith explaining the plot of Batman and the Riddle Factory, a comic issue written by Matt Wagner. He enjoyed reading it and hopes to explore that part of his character somehow in the show. The way he described it makes me want to read the story just to see how it pans out. I also wouldn’t mind seeing this as a one-shot animated movie like “Batman: The Killing Joke.”

The press roundtable videos from the guests are below. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to ask Mazouz nor Richards anything but most the questions asked were good. I felt that as far as excited energy Bicondova and Powell showed it the most but I also felt that the questions helped bring that vibe out. When Smith described how Nygma wanted to be elegant but creepy in how he approaches committing a crime, I got goosebumps. I enjoyed getting some behind the scenes information from producer Cannon. I hope to get another opportunity to interview the cast and producers again as it was great talking with them! F0x even managed to get a few pics of my table when interviewing Cannon and Smith.
