NYCC 2014 Introducing New York Super Week

According to Reed Pop’s press release today, New York City Comic Con (NYCC) is taking over New York City from October 3-12, 2014 in a “first of it’s kind pop culture festival, called New York Super Week.   Clear Channel Spectacolor is the Official Media Partner of Super Week and NYCC and will help oversee several of the Super Week events.

New York Comic Con sold out last year and featured a Walking Dead Escape and even Zachary Levi’s Nerd HQ made an appearance, so it’s no surprise that the convention is trying to top themselves this year.

Here is a quote from the press release:

“We envision New York Super Week taking over NYC, brining diverse content from all corners of the pop culture galaxy to all the corners of the five boroughs of the greatest city in the world. New York Super Week will follow the spirit of popular events like South by Southwest, but introduce it with a distinct New York sensibility and flair and fully rooted in the world of popular culture,” said Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP. “With New York Comic Con becoming so popular amongst fans, media and sponsors it was natural to broaden the scope of content and tear it out of the Javits Center and into the city at large allowing new fans and more fans  to experience a whole week of content leading into the show.”

Additional details and ticket sale dates for individual Super Week events will be announced throughout the summer.  Some events that have already been announced is StarTalk Live! hosted by Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and SLIMED! Presents a Nickalodeon Nostalgia Night! Sounds intriguing.  I’m all about nostalgia from growing up in the 80s and 90s.

Starting June 18, the VIP badges go on sale for NYCC. What’s included with the VIP badges are here.  VIP prices and the 4 day ticket includes a Super Week Card. Information regarding possibly purchasing a Super Week card separately from individual passes  is not available yet.  According to NYCC’s website,  the important thing to note is that the card is NOT a ticket to NYCC nor does it give you any seating at NYCC.  You must purchase separately any Super Week Ticketed events, however, the card provides a discounts to some of those tickets. Here are the benefits of the Super Week Card:

  • Priority seating to all New York Super Week events taking place at 92Y Kaufmann Concert Hall, Barnes and Noble and Galapagos Art Space
  • Drink specials at venues and bars such as Rock Bar, Barcade, The Bell House, Union Hall, Videology, Duke’s, Big Daddy’s and The Way Station
  • Discounts to citywide tours such as Watson Adventure Tours, Bike and Roll NY, Shop Gotham, Slice of Brooklyn and On Location Tours
  • In-store merchandise discounts at cool retailers including Midtown Comics and FDNY Fire Zone
